About Us

Come on in the coffee's hot!

Rose
Valton

,
Rose Marie Scott and Louis Valton Jobe were married July 11,1948 in Sulphur Springs Texas. Our parents were, Lawton and Pauline Scott and Roy and Jewel Jobe all of Hopkins County. Although our parents grew up together and at one time even double-dated, Rose and I really never knew each other until I was about 16 and she was 13 years old. Our parents had moved from Hopkins Co. to Orange Texas to work in the shipyards during world war 2 and her older brother, Joe and I became best friends and though Rose and I did not date while living at Orange we were always together in our free time "just riding around" with Joe and some neighbor kids.
I Joined the Army Air Force in 1945 and The Scott's moved back to Sulphur Springs. After Basic training at SAACC Field in San Antonio Texas I was assigned to the 807th Aviation Engineering Battallion at Geiger Field in Spokane Washington. It was there on some of those homesick nights that I determined I was in love with that little girl I used to ride around with. As soon as I was discharged in the latter part of 1947 I borrowed about $30.00 for a down payment on a set of rings and Popped the question. She said yes and the rest is history.
Fifty-three years, two children. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild later I can say it was the best thing that ever happened to me. We were both fortunate to have in-laws that we both loved and still love those who are living and We believe all our in-laws loved and love us. We lived through some hard times but we are now retired and The Lord has blessed us richly.
I started as a truck driver for a Ready-mix concrete Company and after about 5 years I was transferred into the shop and was later promoted to the shop Foreman and finally to plant maintenance foreman. I spent 27 years with this company then went into my own truck and auto repair business and finally finished my working days with a Carquest Auto Parts Jobber Double E Automotive in Groves Texas.
Rose began working for Sears as a sales clerk in 1958 and retired as department head of ladies' fashions in 1989 after getting her 30 year service pin. We were able to see much of the world through the generosity of Carquest and Double E.  We traveled to such places as, Lake Tahoe, San-Francisco, Honolulu and The Big Island of Hawaii, London England, Montreal and Quebec Canada all expenses paid and for this we are grateful.
Since our retirement we have traveled in all but five of the Continental United States all by car, 5,800 miles one trip with our friends Meb and Eloise Wilson, 6,100 miles one trip, 6,700 miles another trip, and 3,000 miles still another  with our friend Tootsie and O'Neal Wilson. Not bad for a couple of "Farm Kids" from Hopkins County!
